I have had a lot of people ask me this question lately, and I never know how to answer it. How long have you been taking pictures? Photography has been a part of my life since I was a teenager. My family always had a camera. I cannot think of a family function or vacation where we don’t have tons to pictures to look back on.

 

In high school, I was involved in yearbook and multimedia. After high school was over, I thought I wanted to be a dentist. After a year of biology, I knew dentistry was not my calling. I remember sitting down with my Dad, crying that I hated college. He told me; college is supposed to be fun! Take some classes that you think you will enjoy. Don’t worry about finishing in four years. Do something that will make you happy. So, in 2000, I took a photography class and quickly switched my major to Art with a concentration in photography.

 

Here is a little fun timeline of the last 23 years…

 

1997 – 1999 Yearbook and Multi Media at South Terrebonne High School

2000 – Switched major to Art with a concentration in photography

2001 – Married my high school sweetheart (June makes 19 years )

2003 – Started freelancing for the Houma Daily Courier. 1st assignment made the front page. (My Granny has it framed in her house still to this day)

2004 – Started second shooting for Cameron Gillie Photography

2004 – Photographed my 1st wedding for $50.

2006 – Graduated from Nicholls State University with a bachelor’s degree in Art

2007 – Officially went into business

2008 – Became a Mom!! (1st child born in October)

2011 – 2nd Child born

2014 – Purchased my studio on Lafayette Street in Houma

2018 – Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Studio

2019 – Won Bayou’s Best of the Best, Won The Knot Best of Weddings, Won Top Rated Local in Louisiana & published in Cosmopolitan Magazine.

 

In that time, I have photographed 272 weddings and have been in business for thirteen years. The last 23 years has been a blast. I’m so grateful for this gift that God has given me. I hope that I’m blessed with another 23 years.
